National Women's Machineries
|
 |
|
| "National machinery for the advancement of women is
the central policy coordinating unit inside government.
Its main task is to support government-wide mainstreaming
of a gender-equality perspective in all policy areas."
This definition and role for national women's machineries
was highlighted in the Beijing Platform for Action following
the UN World Conference in 1995. Since that time many
different national mechanisms for women's advancement
and gender equality have been established and within the
Arab world these mechanisms have been developed under
particularly difficult circumstances in a region where
there have been ongoing conflicts and many demands on
governments to address deep seated problems of religious
and cultural differences as well as social and gender
inequalities. |
