| Impediments to women's labour force participation
in the public, private and informal sectors; women's unrecognized
contribution to the care economy; and challenges to women's
entrepreneurship and market access in the Mediterranean
region.
Extensive discussions and meetings were conducted revolving
around key areas: the importance of addressing labour
market constraints for women including labour legislation,
property rights, addressing wage differentials and skills
gap; the interlinkage between cultural and legal environments
and women's economic participation stressing the importance
of interpretation and application of personal status
laws and cultural perceptions of women's productive
and reproductive roles.
Experts highlighted the importance of supporting evidence-based
research on women's economic participation, they also
cautioned against narrow economic analysis that does
not take into account the multi dimensional factors
of gender-based discrimination.
